Hickory makes a very strong walking stick. This wood is used extensively for tool handles such as hammers and axes. Hickory is a white wood with a dark outer bark. Approximately 3/4 to 1 1/4" diameter and 53" long.
I've made several canes (as gifts) from blanks bought at TreelineUSA. Every blank has been ideal for its purpose. That's actually true about everything I've ever bought there. What I like best, however, is the professionalism and friendliness of the company's staff for which I'm grateful.
I recieved a nice straight stick. After debarking and fractal burning i added some blue resin to add flare. I finished it off with a coat of linseed oil and the grain just popped. Finished it of with a cane base from treeline and i must say i will be ordering more.
Told PJ what I was needing to make a cane, told him to pick me out a nice stick out of Hickory. Couldn't have asked for better service!! Talked to BNish about diamond willow sticks and gave me information on when I could expect them in stock. I say again, you can't beat their service, and the YouTube tutorials are a PLUS
!!!
I have purchased 2 of these hickory sticks now and both are excellent. They are straight and have been fried carefully dried so it did not crack. The smooth bark is comfortable to hold on to and arrived quickly in perfect condition.
Very strong wood and as straight as possible (mostly) with character found in the wild.
I have made a cane and a walking stick from the Hickory sticks. The sticks are always top notch. Straight, expertly dried and the sizes are always as described. My last order arrived very quickly and in perfect shape. A+++
