Learn How to Carve an Eight Pointed Star

Learning how to carve is incredibly fun! Quite often people ask what kind of project should someone start with to learn the basic carving techniques.  We have found that by learning how to carve this 8 pointed star you can learn the 3 basic cuts (stop cut, push cut, and pull cut) and you have the chance to practice over and over again. After you have carved a few of these simple stars you will be very familiar with these cuts as well as how to work with different wood grain directions. These skills are incredibly helpful as you learn how to carve more advanced projects.

The 8 pointed star could easily be stained or painted and displayed as a Christmas ornament or another hanging decoration.

• Practice Block (cut to 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" x 1 1/2")
